Nikolai Tabakov

 

Nikolai Tabakov is a talented versatile artist.

 

LAMPS

Nikolai uses paper and metal to produce handmade lamps. 
"Years ago, I used to work in a shop that sold traditional Moroccan lamps made out of leather and metal. I kept looking at them thinking that  I might be able to create something similar. This was how i bought some metal wires and I started welding them together... and it worked!"
Nikolai's beautiful lamps can be seen in a number of places, private homes and exhibitions. He often organises workshops focusing on lamp making. The idea is that anyone can learn how to make their own lamp. It only takes around 3-4 hours.

MUSIC

Nikolai plays the drums and the doumbek. He runs the percussion ensemble "Sladki Drenki" as a part of SOS Children's Villages (Bulgarian charity organisation) in Dren as well as "Ethno rhythm club" in Dupnitsa, which is a part of a project run by the Ministry of Education and Technology. 

Nikolai plays drums in a band called Blues Traffic, formed in 1997. Their style is a mixture between blues and rock and their repertoire includes covers of different song as well as their own original tracks, popular amongst their followers. 

Blues Traffic can regularly be seen performing in clubs and festivals across the country.  The band takes part in annual concerts in Rila, organised by "IARA" foundation as well as in the festival "Rock in Rila" featuring Vili Kavaldjiev. The band's track "Sutrin" (Morning) was recorded in the music studio "Faktor" and was broadcasted on the radio stations Tangra, Darik, TNN, Express, Bulgarian National Radio, Mila Gold, Z Rock, etc.
