Foteini Papadopoulou
Foteini Papadopoulou, was born in 1986 in Thessaloniki, Greece, and is a freelance choreographer based in Essen, Germany. From 2005 until 2009 she studied dance and in 2013 got her master's degree in Dance Composition (with specialization in Movement Notation/ Movement Analysis) – both from the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. She has danced in “A Choreographic Offering” by José Limón (reconstruction by Libby Nye) and in “Bewegt” by Urs Dietrich and has created a number of her own choreographies. Her first evening length dance theatre piece “WörterKörper” (Body of Words) was performed in Essen (2011) and Cologne (2012) and excerpts of it were presented at various choreographic competitions.
She is interested in the collaboration of artists and scientists from different fields of artistry, knowledge and craftsmanship and this is evident in her current artistic research project “as far as abstract objects”. She is exploring different possibilities for artistic expression herself and has successfully participated at theatre and photography competitions. Foteini Papadopoluou is now making her first steps in the field of dance film – her first dance video “The Flower of Nothingness” was part of the official selection of the International Competition in the framework of the Tanzfilmfestival Luzern 2013.
