Alexandar Hadjiev
Bassoonist, electro-music composer and multi-disciplinary collaborator, Alexandar Hadjiev was born in 1987 in Sofia, Bulgaria. He began his musical studies at the National School of Music L. Pipkov, Sofia under the direction of Peter Kocev and later continued at the Folkwang University Essen (Germany) where he studied with Malte Refardt. Alexandar attended the 2011-2012 International Ensemble Modern Academy in Frankfurt (Germany) where he worked closely with members of Ensemble Modern and performed throughout Germany, France and Hong Kong. A recipient of the 2007 and 2008 "Alfred and Clare Pott" scholarships, Alexander has participated in workshops led by such bassoonist as Sergio Azzolini, Georg Kliutsch, Gustavo Nunez, Henrick Rabien, Thomas Ludes, Johannes Schwarz, Gyorgy Lakatos and Ole-Kristian Dahl.
As an active freelancer, Alexander has appeared with Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Garage, M.A.M, Le Concert Impromptu Paris, altstadtherbst Orchestra, the festival ensemble of Heidelberg Spring with Matthias Pintscher, Westfälische Kammerphilharmonie Gütersloh, Folkwang Kammerorchester and the Sinfonietta Köln and has produced recordings for WDR3, HR, SWR, ZDF, ClassicFM, RBB, MR2, the Bulgarian National Radio and the Bulgarian National Television. He was a member of the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra Sofia and the Sofia New Symphonic Orchestra. In the 2010-2011 season, Alexander was invited as a guest musician for the Städtische Bühnen Münster's children opera project entitled "Moses muss Singen" and received the opportunity to perform in the WDR3 Open Auditions and to record the solo piece "Mathewmatics" by Heinz Holliger for a radio production.
The winner of the 2001 Youth Music Talent Competition and 2006 International Competition Young Virtuosos, Alexandar was invited to perform in the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China with Young Euro Classics. The same year, he was also invited to participate in the International Ensemble Modern Summer Academy held in Schwaz, Austria, where composer, conductor and oboist Heinz Holliger was in residence. Alexandar also worked closely with lead composers and conductors such as Thomas Ades, Matthias Pintscher, Luca Francesconi, Beat Furrer, Arnulf Hermann, Brad Lubman, Johannes Kalitzke, Kasper de Roo, Reinhard Goebel and Gerd Albrecht.
A multi-faceted artist, Alexandar actively enjoys taking part in a variety of cross-genre projects including producing, composing electronic music and working with dancers, DJs, actors and other artists. He has composed the background music for Bulgarian National Television as well as a number of works for both acoustic and electronic instruments.
